What is a hex bolt?
Hex bolts, also known as hexagon bolts, hexagon screw head bolts, hex-cap screws or hex cap bolts, they are named for their shape as the head of each bolt has six sides (hexagonal!). The distinct hexagonal head of the bolts make them easy to be tighten or loosen with wrenches/spanners/sockets from any angle or direction.
Hex bolts are externally threaded fasteners that are prevented from being turned during assembly, they are usually paired with hex nuts for connecting two or more materials together. Hex nuts are the female member of the pair, having internal threads to match those of the bolts, washers are often used to prevent loosening and crushing.
Hex bolts come in a large variety of sizes and diameters. They are made from a wide range of metal materials (stainless steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, brass, aluminium, bronze etc.) and non-metal material like plastic & nylon to accommodate the wide range of applications. Hex bolts may be partially or fully threaded along the shaft.

Different grades of steel hex bolts
Steel hex bolts are made of different grades of steel. The grade of a bolt determines the maximum amount of stress (tensile strength) that the bolt can handle. Tensile strength is the maximum tension-applied load the fastener can support prior to breaking. The method used for tightening the bolt is also dependent upon the grade of the bolt. There are three main systems of bolt classification: SAE, Metric and ASTM.

Stainless Steel:
Stainless steel is a popular choice for hex bolts due to its strong corrosion-resistant properties. Stainless steel hex bolts can be used in either internal or external applications. High heat resistance is also a big benefit, it can withstand an incredible amount of heat as opposed to a screw or socket made from standard steel.
Grade A2 / 304
The 304 Stainless steel hex bolts are good in corrosion resistance, they are recyclable and non-magnetic, widely used for construction, outdoor fittings, machine repairs and DIY projects etc.
Grade A4 / 316
The A4 Type 316 stainless steel hex bolts offers excellent resistance to wear and tear and safe to use in food production applications. They are manufactured specifically to meet environmental and tensile specifications.

Grade 8.8 High Tensile
The Grade 8.8 High tensile hex bolts are manufactured using medium carbon steel treated to heat by both quenching and tempering to increase the hardness, ductility, yield strength, and impact resistance.
Heat treated Grade 8.8 bolts are known to their good tensile strength and perform well in most environments. Therefore they are widely used in motors, engines, railroad equipment and processing equipment. These bolts are built to last and work optimally under harsh usage and should be easily identifiable via a permanent marking on the head to allow the customer to differentiate them.
The Grade 8.8 Hex bolts are available in different sizes, full or part thread and finishes like zinc plated (GI), hot dip galvanized (HDG) or plain types of bolts.
Grade 10.9 High Tensile
Grade 10.9 metric bolts are manufactured using medium carbon steel, medium carbon steel alloy and low carbon boron steel that has been quenched and tempered. Used in automotive applications and for bolting large and forged parts, they exhibit high tensile strength and good wear resistance.
Grade 12.9 High Tensile
Grade 12.9 bolts, fasteners and fixings are for some of the heaviest jobs, such as securing engines and ensuring that drives are tamper proof.
